J:Kenzo has just dropped his debut album on London based label Tempa Recordings, with an impressive back catalog and forthcoming LP tour, 2013 is looking like a big year for this rising underground star!
His sound has always been stripped back to the original Dubstep style from the early days (2004/5), creating space within his tracks, dark minimal bass stabs and dubwise samples. Utilizing this minimalistic approach to his tracks, J:Kenzo has kept the fundamental structure of dubstep, but pushed it into 2012 with new studio techniques. The three best words to describe his sound are dark, clean and minimal.
J:Kenzo’s musical influences are hugely varied, with dub vocals and samples, touches of Jungle, Techno and hip hop, all fused together to make a truly original artist album. His tracks are always driven by a deep sub bass, aimed towards the dance floors across the world. J:Kenzo ‘s mixing is on par with his productions, rapid blends and double drops, as well as, special VIP dubplates! J:Kenzo is currently recording for 1Xtra, hosting a fortnightly studio mix for Mistajam’s Dubstep show, helping new talent to come through the ranks and make their names heard on national radio.
J:Kenzo is touring the US this month, with a bunch of roadblock events planned, appearing in San Fransisco, LA, Miami and NYC. The dubstep scene in NYC is really peaking at the moment with fresh new parties appearing all the time. Weather its Drum & Bass or Dub, this city is definitely becoming a hub for all things dance related, with loads of techno vinyl and second hand record stores, you can find hidden gems around every corner. Dub heads can spend their extra holiday money at trainer mecca NYC Flight Club, the best in sneaker shopping, with all the latest Air Jordans and rare Nike releases.
