Sydney Festival 2013

Witness first hand the largest summer festival in Australia. With an extensive selection of cultural events varying from dance to traditional aboriginal art – the Sydney Festival is the most popular event in Australia showcasing over 350 performances and over 1000 artists. The venues span across 30 locations within the city, such as, the Sydney Opera House, Seymour Centre and the Riverside Theatres, this summer event is an great way for both locals and international tourists to experience a range of visual and experimental arts, native to Australia.

Events

The festival starts off with massive free events in the parks and streets of the city, which include dance, and visual events. More than 200,000 visitors will party at the festival’s opening night, celebrated on the first Saturda.  The Sydney Festival atmosphere is friendly and unique, creating a global recognition, showcasing elite performances in theatre, fireworks and international food. The highlight of the festival is the Australia Day celebrations commencing on the 26th January with boat races and traditional ship displays at the stunning Sydney Harbour. The festival with its wide range of free events, makes the event very appealing to a wide audience, with different flavours to suit every age group.

Saturdays in January have never looked so entertaining, with summer concerts in The Domain or Parramatta. Past line ups have featured the sounds of Mali, Gypsies folk music and African genres. The following weekend sees the orchestral magic of the Sydney Symphony. All through January the Festival Garden houses The amazing Spiegeltent with an eye catching selection of burlesque and music.  This is the perfect setting for laid back summer nights, in the beautiful surroundings of Hyde Park. The Festival is a bit more upbeat with bands and DJs playing to the early hours of the morning.

 

Tickets

Entry for the events are priced at a low AUD $25.  Tickets can be collected at the ‘Tix for Next to Nix’ office located in Sydney’s business area.  Cash must be used to purchase tickets and the booth is open from 8am to 12pm.

Moving to Sydney
