Dwele shows no sign of writers block and must have mad creativity as on the day of releasing his new album “Greater Than One” on the 28th of August,he would also out a free mixtape for the fans entitled “Dark Side of The Mic”. Both are of stellar quality and will not disappoint however I found myself instantly engaged in the experimental nature of the latter for lots of reasons.
Dark Side of The Mic is a twisted journey featuring lots of synth and vocoder effects fused nicely with soulful nuances and samples of popular hip hop and neo soul records. The mixtape features an ode to Slick Rick where D takes to adopting a faux-British accent which is actually kind of charming compared with your typical American impression of an English accent. This mixtape is like the out takes from a blockbuster movie, the additional extra footage or directors cut, perhaps because it features more outside of the box experiments and samples that may be difficult to clear it was deemed worth putting out as a free mixtape, all I know is that I thank Dwele for doing so!
