On the 22nd September the two time UK beatbox champion Beardyman comes to Camden’s KOKO
Beardyman has been building his cult following since 2006 when he won the title of UK beatbox champ, and then again in 2007. He shot to fame with his viral youtube video “Kitchen Diaries.” If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to check it out below this article.
Since then his act has morphed in to something much more. The razor adverse artist has invested in to his act with cutting edge technology such as the MicroKORG and the Kaoss pad, taking his performances from one platform beatboxing, to club anthems all originating from one instrument, his voice.
I remember the first time I saw the North Londoner live in Inverness at the Rockness Festival. He wowed the crowd by making a track derived from an explanation of his act. I vividly recall the crowd singing along to “There’s no MP3’s, There’s no MP3’s, There’s no MP3’s!! There’s no…”
The thing that makes Beardyman unique is that no two performances will ever be the same. Spontaneity is his ally and his shows rely on his impulsive reactions to the crowd. Each audience will experience something new, something fresh, as he creates original sounds before your very ears. Nothing can be expected except a high energy, mesmerising, sometimes comedic performance.
Whether you are new his music or you’re a carded member of the Beardyman cult, you’ll be sure to experience an entirely authentic creation in Camden, the Mecca of emerging British musical talent.
